Jardí d’Aclimatació de Montjuïc
The Acclimatisation Garden is one of Barcelona’s most interesting botanical spaces. It contains nearly 230 species of plants, some of which are unique to or very rare in the city. All in all it makes for a place of exceptional beauty.
The first attempts at plant acclimatisation began in the eastern Mediterranean, in places such as Egypt and Mesopotamia, since when it has helped us to enrich not just our knowledge of new species but the diversity of our local flora too.
The Acclimatisation Garden in Barcelona is arranged as flower beds, among which there are some especially notable large trees. They are sufficiently spaced apart to enable visitors to contemplate them individually. This makes sense when we bear in mind that the purpose behind these gardens was to discover the possibilities of cultivating plant species from around the world in Barcelona’s climate. Hence the need for space.

Estadio Olimpico Lluis Companys
Designed by architect Pere Domènech i Roura, the Olympic Stadium was opened on 20 May 1929 for the Barcelona Universal Exposition. The second-largest stadium in the world at the time, it was designed for the 1936 Olympic Games, but due to the political situation of the time they never took place there and the stadium fell into disuse. Half a century later, as a result of Barcelona’s bid to host the Olympics, the stadium came back to life thanks to the team of architects made up of Gregotti, Correa, Milà, Margarit and Buixadé. In 1985 work began to completely remodel the stadium, adding facilities and services necessary to host an Olympic Games. The entire stadium underwent remodelling, except the facade, the original of which was conserved.
The new Olympic Stadium was inaugurated on 8 September 1989 for the 5th Athletics World Cup. The event was the first test of the level of organisation, and of the performance of the new facilities as a venue for large sporting events. Since then, numerous events of all kinds have been held there.
On 31 March 2001, it was given the name Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc Lluís Companys, in honour of the former president of the Government of Catalonia.
The Olympic Games’ star facility was the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games of the XXV Olympiad in 1992, and for the athletics events. It was also the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Paralympic Games and athletics events.

The Teatre Lliure in Barcelona was founded in 1976, and is one of the most renowned performing arts theatres in the country. It is currently directed by the stage director Juan Carlos Martel Bayod.
It has two venues – one in Montjuïc with one large and another small format auditorium, and the other in Gràcia, with a medium-sized auditorium. The performances presented at these venues are based on texts, ideas and proposals from various fields and theatrical languages, and are always the result of the desire to reflect reality.
The audience is a crucial part of the Lliure, and in each performance it acts as an assembly that shares individual and collective feelings, making the experience of the theatre a cultural pleasure.
